A Cute, New Game To Unravel

Posted by on Feb 5, 2016

The current trend in the video game industry is getting a little old. A majority of new, popular video games have a plot based on war and assassination. This makes people who are fairly inexperienced in the video game world feel as if they’re too late to the party. Almost all new or upcoming games are building off an existing series, so It’s refreshing to hear about a new release with an original plot. Too many games require getting a team together, either locally or online. Personally, when I desire to play a video game, I’m seeking solitude. I want a fun, one player game to escape in and feel good about. Similar in style to Sony’s Little Big Planet is a game that I may find to be quite enjoyable – called Unravel. Unravel has been developed by Coldwood Interactive and published by Electronic Arts. The character you play in this quirky, puzzle platform style game is named Yarny. He is an adorable, tomato colored creature. His bodily structure is made of red yarn (that’s why his name is Yarny....

Sci-Fi Novel Has “Waved” Into Theaters

Sci-Fi Novel Has “Waved” Into Theaters

Jan 25, 2016

A peaceful weekday takes a frightening turn when an evil, extraterrestrial species invades planet Earth. The catastrophe has left homes and families in shambles, and the worst has yet to come. Teenager Cassie Sullivan has miraculously survived the first four waves of disaster, but the aliens have kidnapped the only family she has left. Time is running out for Cassie to overcome the earth-shattering obstacles and rescue her little brother. The movie is based off the 2013 novel, written by author Rick Yancey. It is titled “The 5th Wave” because the story’s main focus is on the style of invasion. The aliens, also known as “the others”, attempt to destroy Earth in five waves. Wave number one knocked out all electricity. The second wave caused an earthquake beyond our imagination. Wave number three piled up the bodies with worldwide disease. Wave number four is when the aliens begin inhabiting human bodies, causing people to turn against each other in fear of their own lives. Want to find out what disaster the 5th wave brings upon civilization? The book must be read or the movie must be watched to find out. One incredibly common trend in motion picture entertainment is visualizing novels by transforming them into movies or television series, some becoming far more successful than others. Take the Harry Potter series, for example. The British wizard by the name of Harry Potter and his magic-wielding friends return to Hogwarts school of magic year after year. His adventures were imagined by J.K. Rowling and written over the span of seven books. On November 16, 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was released as a film. Theaters across America had scores of wand-wielding, uniform-wearing followers camping outside the ticket booth, awaiting admission to a dream come true. The film grossed in the United States at over $300 million dollars. The 5th Wave is a brand new movie release. It hits theaters a few days ago on January 22, 2016. It has been rated PG-13 by The Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) for violence and distruction, some sci-fi thematic elements, language, and brief teen partying. Will Cassie survive the apocalyptic invasion and be reunited with...

Zootopia — An All-Ages Animated Gem

Zootopia — An All-Ages Animated Gem

Jan 24, 2016

Sloths for employees at the Department of Motor Vehicles, a moose for a television news anchor, and hamsters walking to the office in suits – all expected sightings in Disney’s newest animated movie, Zootopia. In a city where all members of the animal kingdom drive cars, the citizens are somehow caught off guard when a bunny (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) is welcome to the police force. Rookie Sargent Judy Hopps (see what they did there?) finds herself in a police force of lions and tigers and bears (oh my!), facing the challenge of proving she is worthy of her badge. When serious crime strikes the peaceful metropolitan area, Hopps and a fox named Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) team up to save the city. Disney is notorious for connecting viewers to the world around them by animating objects and animals into human-like situations. Finding Nemo (2003) tells a story about a single father clown fish who travels across the ocean in search of his son. Cars (2006) is an animated film about a living race car who learns about the important things in life. Any kid born in the 1980’s or 1990’s will likely admit to once believing that the inanimate objects filling their bedrooms would converse when humans left the room. Disney Pixar Animation Studio’s first movie, Toy Story (1995), may have been an inspiration for such wild thinking. While Disney adds a unique touch to each film, they continue to teach children life lessons of compassion and believing in yourself. Nostalgia of the Disney logo and style appeal to parents and older siblings, providing a good time for an all-ages audience through motion picture. If a movie has the Disney logo attached to it, you can expect minimal restrictions from the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA). According to imdb.com, Zootopia is rated PG for “some thematic elements, rude humor and action”. In other words, the movie is perfectly safe for younger children, but may contain a couple silly jokes that have the potential to offend someone. Zootopia is expected to hit theaters on March 4,...

Zoolander 2 — A Cult Classic Making A Comback!

Zoolander 2 — A Cult Classic Making A Comback!

Jan 23, 2016

Actors Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are back – making a second appearance in theaters as Derek Zoolander and Hansel. Brought by Paramount Pictures is the comedy hit of two male models, once sworn enemies, joining forces in Zoolander 2 to save the lives of their fellow “beautiful people” as well as their reputations in the modeling world. The prequel to Zoolander 2, simply known as Zoolander, released September 28, 2001. When Zoolander’s career begins to plummet, he becomes manipulated and tricked into changing jobs from a world-known fashion inspiration to assassin of Malaysia’s Prime Minister. As events unfold, Zoolander and Hansel discover that once the two boys put their competitive attitudes and personal differences aside, they make a dazzling, butt-kicking duo. Starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, with support roles played by Will Ferrell and Christine Taylor, the cast list of Zoolander features faces that any humor-loving, film viewer would recognize. This stays true throughout the second film. Zoolander 2 is blessed to have many of these same actors and actresses, with a few extra famous faces. While Donald Trump nor Milla Jovovich expected to make a second appearance, pop stars Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato will happily have a few lines to memorize for the film. It is no surprise that Ben Stiller is starring in a sequel – his acting career is filled with “second” and “third” movies. Meet the Parents was released in October, 2000, followed by Meet the Fockers in 2004. A more family-friendly piece of Stiller’s career released in December, 2006 under the name Night at the Museum. Night at the Museum 2 came out in 2009. The two Night at the Museum movies were such box office hits that director Shawn Levy put together Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb in 2014. If “slapstick” or “satire” are words that describe what makes you burst with laughter, expect to be purchasing a movie ticket in the near future. Zoolander 2 has yet to receive a rating from the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA), but it is scheduled to hit theaters on February 12,...

Deadpool — A Classic Hero With A Modern Twist

Deadpool — A Classic Hero With A Modern Twist

Jan 22, 2016

For super hero fans, February 12, 2016 could not arrive soon enough. That’s when Deadpool will finally be released to view on the big screens in the United States. Deadpool brings to life the story of a man named Wade Wilson, a cancer-stricken Special Forces operative who volunteered to take part in a sketchy experiment in an attempt to be cured. Wade Wilson walked from the lab with the ability to heal his body at an extraordinary rate. Once the experiment has made its mark, Wade learns that the love of his life is in danger. His gift of quick healing helps give him an upper hand in front-line combat on his mission to protect his lady. Marvel is famous for offering the world timeless stories of ordinary people, often with troubled pasts, gaining superhuman abilities as a result of science experiments and unfortunate events. He has the suit, powers, and an eye for a lady in trouble. While Deadpool holds a place in the category of “superhero”, fans have found that he doesn’t quite fit into the mold of your typical comical life-saver. His costume may hold a resemblance to Marvel’s“friendly neighborhood” Spider Man, but the two have very little in common. Deadpool stands out by shamelessly throwing outlandishly crude insults to his enemies as he gruesomely defeats them. Each Marvel superhero began as a comic book character – Deadpool being no different. At first, he was one of several characters in The New Mutants beginning February, 1991. The components of his character became increasingly appealing to the American audience, resulting in an increase of appearances in the Marvel world. He made appearances in the comic book X-Force and was the main focus of a series named The Circle Chase. In 1997, his popularity justified his very own title, Deadpool. Unlike his fellow heroes who are shining stars in the cinematic world, his film can only be viewed in theaters by fans who quality for admission to adult-oriented movies. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) gave Deadpool an R rating for strong violence, language, sexual content, and graphic nudity. Despite this restriction, appeals to a vast audience. His wit will entertain those...
