The Top 5 Awards of the 86th Academy Awards (The Oscars)

Mar 6, 2014

The Best Picture:

The Best picture award is also one of the hardest choices for the judges because it always has great movies and this year was not an exception. The list of movies that were nominated for this category included American Hustle, Philomena, 12 Years a Slave, Nebraska ,The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Dallas Buyers Club and Captain Phillips. The movie that snatched the award for Best Picture was 12 Years a Slave which told the story of an African American violinist who was abducted as a free man and sold into slavery in the south where he has to adapt to his new life while trying to find a way to escape his captivity.

The Lead Actor and the Lead Actress:

The lead actor category is the most talked about award. The nominees for this award included everyone’s favorite, Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, Chiwetel Ejiofor for his role in 12 years a slave, Bruce Dern for his role in Nebraska, Matthew McConaughey’s Dallas Buyers club role and Christian Bale’s role in American Hustle. Sadly, Leonardo DiCaprio is still at 0 Oscars as the award was awarded to Matthew McConaughey for his amazing role.

As for the lead actress, the list included Cate Blanchett’s Blue Jasmine role, Sandra Bullock’s Gravity role and Amy Adams for American Hustle. The award was awarded to Cate Blanchette for her amazing role in The Blue Jasmine.

The Best Original Song:

This was a close shut case because everyone already knew that “Let It Go” by Frozen would claim the award because of its amazing meaning and lyrics, who would not want to Let it Go and accept himself the way he is. Although it has won the award, there were great songs in the nominees list that included Happy from Despicalble Me 2, The Moon song from the movie Her and Ordinary Love from the Mandela Movie.

Best Animated Movie:

It seems that Frozen has struck gold again by winning its second Oscar this year for the best animated movie. Frozen was about a princess who has super powers and her sister. She is locked away and when she has to meet people, she freezes everything and turns the weather of the kingdom into eternal winter and it is up to her sister and a man she met on her way to set things right once again. The list of nominees included Ernest and Celestine, Despicable Me 2 and the Croods.

The Gravity Awards:

Of course, this is not an Oscar award but the movie has won so many Oscars that I decided to put it in a category of its own. The movie won the Oscar for “Best Director”, “Cinematography”, “Film Editing”, “Original Score”, “Production Design”, “Sound Editing”, “Sound Mixing” and “Visual Effects”.
